Special Inspection General Requirements (GR) Practice Exam

The first step a special inspector should take upon arrival at a job site is to review the approved plans and inspection schedule. This step is essential because it ensures that the inspector is fully informed about the project requirements, specifications, and the sequencing of inspections. By examining the approved plans, the inspector can understand what aspects of the work need to be inspected, the relevant codes and standards applicable to those inspections, and any specific instructions or notes provided in the plans.

Additionally, the inspection schedule will inform the inspector about the timeline for various phases of the project and indicate which elements require immediate attention. This foundational understanding allows the inspector to carry out their duties effectively and ensures that they are aligned with the project’s goals and requirements.

Starting the inspection without this crucial review could lead to oversights, inadequate inspections, or addressing the wrong elements of the work being done. Meeting with the project manager can be significant in clarifying expectations and ongoing issues; however, it should occur after the inspector has reviewed the essential documents to ensure informed discussions. Preparing a report on previous inspections and beginning inspections immediately without this initial review would not provide the optimal context for the inspector's work.
